After Consultation: Injectables (Botox, Fillers) Facial Aftercare, 48‑Hour Do’s & Don’ts

By SUR MedSpa (Medical Spa) - Marietta, GA | July 27, 2026

We keep our injectables consults pressure-free and focused on what you actually want. Now let’s protect that plan. For the first 48 hours after Botox or fillers, don’t work out hard, drink alcohol, or massage the injection sites. Sleep with your head elevated the first night, use gentle cold compresses for swelling, and call us right away for severe pain, spreading redness, or increasing asymmetry.

After Consultation - Injectables (Botox, Fillers): 48‑Hour Do's & Don'ts image

If you just left our Sandy Plains corridor location in northeastern Marietta, you’re probably doing the same thing our regulars do. You’re checking the mirror, planning the rest of your day, and hoping the aftercare is simple.

Good news. The right aftercare is low-disruption, and it’s one of the reasons our clients describe their results as natural and often “exceeding expectations.” Keep this page handy for tonight and tomorrow, especially if you booked a late-afternoon appointment on your way off I‑75 or I‑575.

First 24 to 48 hours after Botox or fillers: the simple rules that matter

In the first two days, think “calm and gentle.” Your goal is to minimize swelling and bruising, and to avoid moving product around in the areas we treated.

48-hour non-negotiable: Don’t rub, press, or massage treated areas. Keep hands off your face unless we specifically told you to massage a specific filler area.

Do this today

  • Use a gentle cold compress if you’re puffy or tender. Light pressure only. We like short rounds, then a break, then repeat.
  • Keep your head upright after Botox. We generally recommend avoiding lying flat for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Stick to low-key movement. A brief walk is fine. Skip heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours.

Avoid these for 24 to 48 hours

  • Vigorous exercise, hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and anything that has you flushing or drenched.
  • Alcohol. It tends to make bruising more likely.
  • NSAIDs and blood-thinning supplements unless we specifically told you otherwise. If you’re not sure what counts, call us and we’ll talk it through.

The first week in Marietta heat: sweat, sun, and the little mistakes that cause big bruises

After the first 48 hours, most people feel completely normal. But the first week is still when we see avoidable swelling and bruising flare-ups, especially during Marietta’s hot, humid summers.

If you’re doing weekend outdoor plans, keep heat exposure reasonable and protect your skin. We like a fragrance-free sunscreen and a hat when you can. Heat and heavy sun can make swelling linger and can irritate already sensitive areas.

Quick reminder: Picking at a tiny bruise or bump usually makes it last longer. If something feels “off, ” let us know instead of trying to fix it in the mirror.

And if you had filler, be cautious with anything that puts pressure on the area for a few days. Think aggressive facial massage tools, tight goggles, or sleeping face-down. Simple is best.

Skin care products that keep your result clean and calm (no “dermal facial” experiments)

Right after injectables, your skin doesn’t need a complicated routine. It needs a calm routine. Keep it gentle, keep it clean, and don’t add brand-new actives just because you’re excited.

Our go-to routine for the first few days

  • A mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
  • A simple moisturizer you already tolerate well.
  • Daily sunscreen, fragrance-free if you’re sensitive.

Skip facial masks and any “dermal facial” add-ons for now if they involve heat, strong tingling, scrubbing, or tools that press into your injection sites. And hold off on facial massage until we’re past that first 48-hour window. If you’re unsure what counts as massage, send us a quick message. We’d rather you ask than guess.

Red flags after fillers or Botox, and when we want you to call us

A little tenderness, mild swelling, and small bruises can be normal. What we don’t want is you sitting at home trying to talk yourself out of calling when something is escalating.

Call us immediately if you notice:

  • Severe or increasing pain
  • Spreading redness or warmth
  • Skin blanching (whitening), dusky color changes, or anything that looks like circulation is compromised
  • Increasing asymmetry that’s getting worse, not better
  • Fever or feeling sick

“They make you comfortable asking questions about any of the procedures.”

We take follow-ups seriously. Our clients mention that we check in, we stay available, and we don’t rush them through questions. We also see patients from Marietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Acworth, Smyrna, and Roswell, so if you’re driving back home after your appointment and something worries you, call us. We’ll help you sort out what’s normal and what needs attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

We generally recommend skipping vigorous exercise, heavy sweating, saunas, and hot yoga for 24 to 48 hours after Botox or fillers. A light walk is fine. If you’re prone to bruising or swelling, give yourself the full 48 hours before you go back to high-intensity workouts.

If the skin isn’t irritated and you’re not actively bleeding at the injection points, many people can apply makeup later the same day or the next day. Keep it gentle. Clean brushes, light pressure, and no rubbing directly over the treated areas. If you bruise easily, waiting until the next morning is often the easiest choice.

We recommend avoiding alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. Alcohol can increase flushing and bruising, especially right after injections. If you have an event, aim to schedule your injectables far enough ahead that you’re not trying to “hide” bruising the next day.

Sleep on your back if you can, with your head slightly elevated the first night. It helps with swelling and keeps you from putting pressure on treated areas. Try not to sleep face-down or pressed into a pillow, especially if you had filler.

Call us right away if you notice severe or increasing pain, spreading redness or warmth, fever, skin blanching or dusky color changes, or asymmetry that’s getting worse instead of settling. Mild swelling and small bruises can be normal. Escalating symptoms are not something to wait out.

In the first 48 hours, skip facial masks if they involve pressure, heat, scrubbing, strong tingling, or vigorous removal. After that window, gentle masks are usually fine, but keep the application and removal light and avoid pressing into treated areas.

Avoid facial massage for at least 48 hours because rubbing or pressure can irritate the area and, with fillers, can potentially move product. After 48 hours, ease back in gently. If you had filler in a specific area, ask us before using any massage tools or booking a facial that includes massage.

We recommend waiting until you’re past the first 48 hours, and longer if the “dermal facial” involves heat, strong exfoliation, or massage. If you tell us what facial you’re considering, we’ll help you time it so you don’t risk extra swelling or irritation.
